The East Lyme Police Cadets began on February 22, 2001 as the East Lyme
Police Explorers Post #045. We started with five youth members and four
adult advisors.
In 2006, the program became a non-profit 501(c) so that we could apply for grants from the business community and public sectors. Since the inception, three of the founding members have found careers as police officers. Several have joined the military and some have gone into working with youth themselves.
In 2010, the name was changed to better fit the program with its intended overall goal.
2012 is looking to be a busy year for us. We have already donated food to the Montville Food pantry, donated to the Montville Education Foundation, conducted a food drive at the East Lyme Stop & Shop and donated food to the East Lyme Care & Share and the Jewish Federation of Southeastern CT food pantry in New London. We are planning a bicycle safety rodeo in May for residents from East Lyme and bordering towns.
We currently have members from Montville, Waterford, Salem, Old Lyme and East Lyme. The post currently has 17 members and 4 active advisors. We are always accepting applications and do have a cap of 25 cadets.
